This scene, everyone. This scene right here is the scene that probably contained the most symbolism of the entire episode. First of all, it shows us something simple and very understandable: Levi finds sentimental meaning in regular, everyday objects, such as Petra’s Scouting Legion emblem. How do we know that this is Petra’s? Well, there is always room for debate on topics in this fandom, but it is to my knowledge that we are mostly in agreement that this patch was indeed Petra’s. My next point is going to be why I am particularly certain that this emblem was Petra’s.

The tree.

It was a detailed and beautifully animated scene that lasted for a second and was probably missed by most eyes. Let us remember now how Petra died. She was smashed into a tree. I feel that this tree has symbolized not only Petra and her death, but that her entity and her spirit is watching over Levi from afar, acknowledging what he is doing, and understanding how much pain her death has caused for him.

Every moment, every second in Attack on Titan seems to be absolutely brimming with importance, but I feel that this moment right here—the emblem, the tree, the way that Levi ultimately gives up his last article of sentiment to a man that nearly caused death and destruction to the Legion in order to calm and comfort his aching heart—holds the utmost.
